Jan Pruszak obtained his medical degree from Hannover Medical School (MHH) in Germany in 2004. He then pursued postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School, with Dr. Ole Isacson at the Center for Neuroregeneration Research, and at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research, with Dr. Thijn Brummelkamp. From 2007 to 2010 he held an academic appointment as an Instructor at Harvard Medical School and was an affiliated faculty member of the Harvard Stem Cell Institute. From 2011 to 2019 he headed a research group funded by the Emmy Noether program of the German Research Foundation (DFG) at the University of Freiburg, Germany. In 2019, he was appointed director of the Institute of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the Paracelsus Medical University (PMU) in Salzburg, Austria. His research interests include cellular interactions and signaling in growth and neural lineage specification of stem cells, in the context of developmental and tumor biology as well as regenerative medicine.
He is also involved in a number of educational efforts including the annual Stem Cells & Regeneration Course at the MBL in Woods Hole, MA, USA.
